Dubai, UAE – The Toy Association of India (TAI) has brought a delegation to the UAE, consisting of members from across India, including manufacturers, importers, exporters, retailers, and toy testing lab designers. This diverse group of professionals aims to promote the Indian toy industry at both the manufacturing and export levels.
In 2020, the Indian toy industry underwent a significant transformation following a directive from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, encouraging local manufacturing. This initiative has led to a dramatic shift, reducing imports by over 50% and increasing exports by 240% in the last three years. This growth presents substantial opportunities for local manufacturers who now produce high-quality toys that meet international standards.

Mr. Ajay Aggarwal, the President of TAI, commented, “Indian manufacturers now offer good quality products, packaging, and testing as per destination country requirements. Some are already exporting to the USA, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East, including Dubai and Saudi Arabia.” He cited advantages like short shipping times from India of just 4-5 days, negligible ocean freight costs compared to imports from China, and the ability for buyers to visit factories within a day’s travel.

The India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) has significantly boosted the competitiveness of Indian toys by granting them zero-duty access to the UAE market. Additionally, many Indian toy manufacturers comply with Gulf Standards Organization (GSO) requirements, ensuring their products meet stringent safety and quality standards. This compliance facilitates seamless export processes and enhances the appeal of Indian toys in the Gulf region.

The delegation visited the Bharat Mart in Dubai and explored prospects in Abu Dhabi as well. TAI continues to be the leading voice of India’s toy industry, showcasing the quality and variety of Indian-made toys on the global stage. Their annual exhibitions have connected over 7,000 buyers and sellers, generating significant business and highlighting the excellence of Indian toys.
