A record number of delegates are attending the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024, which is currently underway at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The WTSA was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. In his inaugural speech, Mr. Modi called for the ethical use of artificial intelligence, emphasizing that security, dignity, and equity should be central to all discussions. He reiterated the importance of establishing a global framework for digital technology and urged global institutions to recognize its significance for global governance. The WTSA is the governing conference for the standardization work of the International Telecommunication Union and is being held in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time. This pivotal global event brings together more than 3,000 industry leaders, policymakers, and tech experts from over 190 countries, representing the telecom, digital, and ICT sectors. Talking to Akashwani News, Niels Konig, one of the participants from Germany, stated that he has shown a keen interest in developing futuristic technologies such as 6G, as India is a very important market.

The ten day ITU Assembly is aimed at shaping the future of technology standards in areas like 6G, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, big data, cybersecurity, machine-to-machine communications, and quantum technologies. The ITU-WTSA will be held till 24th of this month.
