A two-day conference on women peacekeepers deployed in UN missions is set to begin in New Delhi on Monday.
Titled “Women in Peacekeeping: A Global South Perspective,” this first-of-its-kind event is being organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping.
According to the MEA, women peacekeepers from 35 Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) across the Global South will participate. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
The United Nations will be represented at the conference by Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UN Under-Secretary-General for the Department of Peace Operations, and Christian Saunders, UN Special Coordinator.
In addition, the participating women peacekeepers will meet with President Droupadi Murmu.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, in a post on X, highlighted that the conference would bring together top policymakers, peacekeepers, and officials from the UN and India to discuss the Global South’s perspective on peacekeeping technology, training, and regional collaboration.
