Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London yesterday. During the meeting, the United Kingdom agreed to provide Ukraine with a 2.8 billion US dollar loan. President Zelensky said the loan will enhance Ukraine’s defence capabilities and will be repaid using revenues from frozen Russian assets. Mr Zelensky added that the funds will be directed toward weapons production in Ukraine.

The meeting comes a day after his high-profile showdown with US President Donald Trump. The meeting served as a platform for reaffirming the United Kingdom’s commitment to Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Starmer emphasized the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stating that it will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes. He also highlighted the United Kingdom’s determination to work toward achieving a lasting peace for Ukraine.

In response, President Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the steadfast backing of the UK, saying he is happy to have such strong partners and friends.

Today, President Zelensky is scheduled to meet with King Charles III and a group of European allies, further solidifying Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts on the international stage. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and other leaders will also hold talks with the Ukrainian President.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has invited European leaders to London today for the European Summit. Leaders from France, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Romania along with the presidents of the European Council, European Commission and Nato Secretary General have been invited to the summit.
