The Chinese Prosecutor’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for one of the country’s high-ranking officials — Li Gan, who previously served as the head of the anti-corruption department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
According to reports, Li Gan is accused of accepting large-scale bribes. During the investigation, it was revealed that he used his official position to receive bribes in the process of selecting and appointing officials to the Central Committee of the Communist Party, and was also involved in illegal commercial activities.
In addition, Li Gan allegedly received large sums of money and valuable items from company representatives in exchange for signing lucrative contracts related to the Central Committee and offering high-ranking positions. These actions were identified as abuse of official power.
As a result of these criminal offenses, Li Gan was dismissed from his post on April 7 and was expelled from the Communist Party.
It is worth noting that in December 2024, another high-profile corruption case occurred within the Communist Party of China, which resulted in a death sentence. Li Jianping, former secretary of the working committee of the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Hohhot, was executed by the decision of the Supreme People’s Court of China. He was found guilty of embezzling over $2 billion from the state budget and accepting more than $800 million in bribes.
The Chinese government is actively pursuing a strict policy against such cases, and these high-profile incidents reflect the serious nature of the anti-corruption campaign in the country. The severe punishment of high-ranking officials involved in bribery underscores the leadership’s firm stance on fighting corruption.
Li Gan’s case serves as another example of China’s determined anti-corruption efforts — a process that is being closely followed not only by the Chinese public but also by international observers.
