China’s Communist Party (CCP) is actively working to discredit the Dalai Lama, portraying him as a threat to China’s unity and prosperity, top Intelligence sources have told CNN-News18. The CCP’s strategy involves manipulating Tibetans both within Tibet and in exile communities, sources said.

One of the CCP’s primary tactics is spreading propaganda that aims to turn Tibetans against the Dalai Lama. This includes intensive indoctrination programs within Tibet, particularly in Chinese-run schools. Tibetan children are taught a distorted narrative that labels the Dalai Lama as a separatist who seeks to divide China, sources said. The CCP asserts that Tibet has always been an integral part of China and that Tibetan Buddhism should be under the control of the CCP, not exiled religious leaders.

The CCP employs coercion and intimidation to silence any support for the Dalai Lama. Monasteries are forced to denounce him, while monks who remain loyal face arrest, torture, or forced “re-education.” State-run media outlets like Global Times, Xinhua, and CGTN, along with a network of fake social media accounts, spread false allegations accusing the Dalai Lama of inciting violence and colluding with Western powers.

Furthermore, the CCP promotes alternative Tibetan Buddhist leaders, most notably the CCP-appointed Panchen Lama, to undermine the Dalai Lama’s authority. By secretly funding and supporting anti-Dalai Lama groups within the Tibetan exile community, the CCP aims to sow discord and weaken the Tibetan independence movement from within, sources said.

The CCP specifically targets young Tibetans living in exile through enticing scholarships and travel programs to Tibet. These programs expose them to carefully curated pro-China propaganda, aiming to sway their opinions and erode support for the Dalai Lama. Additionally, the CCP attempts to recruit Tibetans abroad to act as informants or to publicly denounce the Dalai Lama.
