Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has emphasized the need to strengthen the country’s offensive and defensive responses in view of growing tensions globally within the defence and security landscape.

He said the complexities of a country’s defence forces are increasing with time. He was addressing an event organised to commemorate 2024 as the Year of Naval Civilians in New Delhi yesterday.

Mr Singh stressed that the military is surging forward with a big mandate and complex structure. He asserted that patriotism, valour, and discipline help the soldiers fulfill their responsibility of protecting the country from threats and challenges.

He said the nation’s economic prosperity is linked to maritime security, and it is necessary to protect territorial waters, ensure freedom of navigation, and maintain sea routes. Mr. Singh described cybersecurity as an important aspect of maritime security in today’s times, stating that ignoring cyber attacks can prove fatal.
