The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has signed an MoU with Banaras Hindu University and the Ministry of Education to provide support to the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) of BHU. The MoU, signed in New Delhi, enables the provision of a grant-in-aid to IMS, BHU by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in line with the new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were present on the occasion. Describing the day as historic, Mr. Nadda stated that this MoU is a product of the Union Government’s “whole of government” approach, which promotes enhanced collaboration among different government departments to achieve common objectives for the benefit of the people.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the MoU will help establish IMS, BHU as a world-class institute. The provision of a grant to IMS will enhance the availability of affordable, state-of-the-art secondary and tertiary health care services to the people of the region. It will contribute significantly to reducing referrals by enhancing the delivery of clinical care services.
