Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the successful implementation of three transformative new criminal laws—the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—to the nation tomorrow, at 12 noon in Chandigarh.
The conceptualization of these laws was driven by the Prime Minister’s vision to eliminate colonial-era legislation that continued to persist post-independence. The aim is to modernize India’s judicial system by shifting the focus from mere punishment to true justice. “Secure Society, Developed India- From Punishment to Justice” is the central theme of this landmark event.
The new criminal laws, which came into force nationwide on July 1, 2024, are designed to make India’s legal system more transparent, efficient, and responsive to contemporary societal needs. These reforms mark a historic overhaul of the country’s criminal justice framework, addressing challenges such as cybercrime, organized crime, and ensuring justice for victims of various offenses.
The program will highlight the practical application of these laws, offering a live demonstration of a simulated crime scene investigation. This demonstration will showcase how the new legal provisions are already reshaping the criminal justice landscape, setting the stage for a more secure and just society.
