Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today said that India’s creative economy has emerged as a 30 billion dollar industry, contributing nearly 2.5 percent of GDP and providing livelihoods to eight percent of the workforce. In an article in English and Hindi dailies, Mr Vaishnaw highlighted that this industry is a dynamic force, with an influencer marketing sector valued at over three thousand crore rupees and over two lakh full-time content creators.

The Minister asserted that the Government is prioritizing three key pillars: nurturing a robust talent pipeline, strengthening infrastructure for creators, and streamlining processes to empower storytellers to elevate India’s creative economy on the global stage. He added that, as part of this vision, the establishment of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology underscores the Government’s commitment to fostering innovation and creativity. He also mentioned that the World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit is a landmark initiative to position the country as a global powerhouse in content creation and innovation.

In the write-up, while talking about the 55th International Film Festival of India, which will begin in Goa this evening, the Minister said that over the next eight days, the event will showcase hundreds of films, host masterclasses with industry stalwarts, and honor the finest in global cinema. He added that this convergence of global and Indian cinematic excellence underscores India’s creative economy as a powerhouse of innovation, employment, and cultural diplomacy.

The Minister underlined that India’s 110 crore internet users and 70 crore social media users are driving the democratization of creativity. Social media platforms and OTT services enable creators to connect directly with global audiences.  He added that the rise of regional content and vernacular storytelling has further diversified the narrative, making India’s creative economy truly inclusive. Mr. Vaishnaw observed that content creators are achieving unprecedented economic success, with those having over one million followers earning between 20 thousand rupees and  2.5 lakh rupees per month. This ecosystem is monetarily rewarding and also a platform for cultural expression and societal impact.
