The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections of 2024 have successfully concluded, marking a pivotal moment in the Union Territory’s democratic journey. This was the first assembly election since 2014, drawing significant public participation and national attention.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P.K. Pole highlighted the event as a reaffirmation of the public’s faith in democracy. “The record-breaking voter turnout reasserts the masses’ unwavering belief in the power of the ballot,” Pole remarked, noting that it showcased a renewed trust in democratic institutions.

The elections, held in three phases, saw 24 constituencies vote in the first phase, followed by 26 in the second, and 40 in the final phase. A total of 873 candidates competed for 90 seats in the legislative assembly, with robust voter participation reflecting widespread enthusiasm for the democratic process.

CEO Pole extended his gratitude to all stakeholders, commending the efforts of District Election Officers (DEOs), Flying Squad Teams (FSTs), Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs), Video Surveillance Teams (VSTs), and over 75,000 polling staff, along with command and control room personnel, nodal officers, and security forces. “The success of these elections is a testament to the dedication of all involved, and most importantly, the voters,” Pole added.

Security and logistical arrangements ensured a peaceful voting process, addressing concerns that previously hindered voter turnout in the region.
As vote counting wraps up, the results will shape the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir for the coming years, symbolizing a step towards normalcy and reflecting the resilience of the people in exercising their democratic rights.
