The latest diplomatic clash at the United Nations General Assembly has once again exposed Pakistan’s obsession with  Jammu and Kashmir and its persistent attempts to internationalise a non-existing issue. Pakistan’s repeated efforts to drag Kashmir into international discussions have been met with unwavering resistance from India.

Time and again, New Delhi has strongly countered Islamabad’s baseless claims, exposing its nefarious agenda of using cross-border terrorism as a state policy while simultaneously masquerading as a victim on the global stage. The latest attempt at the UN is just another example of Pakistan’s well-rehearsed strategy of misleading the world, even as it continues to illegally occupy parts of Indian territory-Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir-in blatant violation of international law. Pakistan’s claims over J&K are baseless and hypocritical.

The region known as PoJK, including Gilgit-Baltistan, was forcefully occupied by Pakistan in 1947-48 through military aggression and has remained under its illegal control ever since. Despite repeated assertions by India that PoJK is rightfully Indian territory, Pakistan has engaged in demographic changes and repressive measures to suppress local dissent, all while falsely portraying itself as a champion of Kashmiri rights. It is pertinent to note that the Indian Parliament, through a unanimous resolution in 1994, reaffirmed that the entire territory of Jammu and Kashmir, including PoJK, is an inalienable part of India.

Even more concerning than Pakistan’s diplomatic posturing is its relentless proxy war against India through state-sponsored terrorism. For decades, Islamabad has fuelled violence in J&K by harbouring, training, and financing terrorist groups that carry out attacks on Indian soil. Groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen have enjoyed Pakistan’s direct patronage, posing a severe threat to regional stability.

Since the 1980s, Pakistan’s military-intelligence complex has systematically supported insurgency and radicalisation in J&K. The Pulwama, Uri, Pathankot airbase, Mumbai and Indian Parliament attacks, to name a few, are stark reminders of Pakistan’s role in cross-border terrorism. Despite being repeatedly exposed on global platforms, including the Financial Action Task Force, Pakistan has done little to dismantle its terror infrastructure. Instead, it continues to shield UN-designated terrorists and allows its soil to be used as a launchpad for attacks against India.

By continuously raising the Kashmir issue at international forums, Pakistan attempts to divert global attention from its own failures-its collapsing economy, worsening human rights record, and growing internal instability. The country, which has failed to provide basic rights to its own people, has no moral standing to lecture others on human rights.

The persecution of minorities, enforced disappearances in Balochistan, and the suppression of political activists in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lay bare Pakistan’s hypocrisy on human rights.
India’s response at the UNGA aligns with its consistent approach-rebutting Pakistan’s falsehoods while reaffirming that J&K is an integral part of India.

Pakistan’s frequent references to Kashmir will neither legitimise its claims nor justify its continued practice of cross-border terrorism. India’s firm stand is not just about countering Pakistan’s propaganda but also about reinforcing a larger truth-that peace and stability in South Asia can only be achieved if Pakistan abandons its policy of terrorism and stops interfering in India’s internal matters. The world has increasingly come to recognise Pakistan’s duplicity, with several nations tightening scrutiny on its terror networks.

Despite Pakistan’s attempts to paint a doomsday picture, the reality on the ground is that J&K is moving towards peace and progress, with increased economic investments, improved infrastructure, and ever-declining terror incidents. Pakistan, on the other hand, remains stuck in a time loop, repeatedly invoking Kashmir at international forums despite being rebuffed each time.

By countering Pakistan’s propaganda with facts, strengthening its security apparatus, and advancing development in J&K, India is setting the stage for a future where terrorism and false narratives find no place. The message to Pakistan is clear-Jammu and Kashmir is an inseparable part of India, and no amount of propaganda or terrorism can alter that reality.
