Prime Minister Narendra Modi, known for his distinctive style, made a sartorial statement at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Wednesday. He donned three outfits as he participated in the sacred rituals, effortlessly switching from traditional Indian attire to functional athleisure.

THE BOAT RIDE

PM Modi began his visit with a boat ride from Arail Ghat to the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he was seen in traditional Indian attire, donning a cream kurta-pyjama paired with a beige Nehru jacket.

For the holy dip at Triveni Sangam, PM Modi made a striking departure from tradition, opting for a saffron jacket and deep blue Adidas track pants with orange stripes.

He complemented the look with a bright blue scarf around his neck and a rudraksha mala on his wrist. His choice of athleisure stood out at the religious gathering, where leaders and devotees typically wear traditional Indian clothing.

THE ‘AARTI’

Later, as he performed tarpan (offering to ancestors) and aarti (prayer ceremony), the Prime Minister sported a black puffer jacket on top of a matching kurta, set off by a white churidar pyjama and a saffron stole adorned with intricate prints draped around his neck.

He capped off the outfit with a colourful Pahari ‘topi’, adding a touch of cultural vibrancy to his look.

Over the years, PM Modi’s fashion choices have often drawn attention, with his signature style ranging from colourful headgear to custom bandhgala coats and tailored suits.

His ability to blend tradition with modern aesthetics has cemented his reputation as a leader who is both experimental and effortlessly on theme.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of Hinduism’s most sacred pilgrimages, is underway in Prayagraj after a 12-year wait. The religious gathering, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26.

Held on the banks of the Triveni Sangam, the Maha Kumbh has attracted millions of devotees from across India and the world. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, more than 38 crore pilgrims have visited the event so far.

PM Modi’s visit comes a week after a deadly stampede at the mela. On January 29, during the Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual, a crowd crush left 30 people dead and 60 injured. Authorities have since ramped up safety measures to prevent further incidents
