Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Saturday said that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is on its last legs, underlining the collective determination to eradicate it from Jammu and Kashmir.
He pointed out that the era when innocent people fell victim to terrorism due to external influence and the involvement of neighbouring country agencies is a thing of the past.
Addressing the police commemoration day at Zewan in Srinagar, the DGP Singh said, even though efforts to disrupt peace from across continue, police are working hard to foil all such bids.
He acknowledged that while there are ongoing efforts to disrupt peace from across the border, the police force is diligently working to thwart all such attempts.
He lamented the loss of eight policemen in anti-terrorist operations over the course of the year, and also paid tribute to officers from the army and other security forces who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Regarding the two distinct shooting incidents along the borders, DGP Singh said that investigations are currently underway, and comprehensive details will be disclosed once the inquiries are concluded.
He said 1,606 police personnel have given their lives over the past three decades while combating terrorism sponsored by Pakistan.
In a tribute to the fallen heroes from the police and other security forces, the DGP Singh said it is due to their sacrifices that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has been effectively quelled.
He stressed that terrorism is now in its final throes, emphasizing the shared determination to completely eradicate it from the region.
DGP Singh said time has gone when on the dictation of Pak and its agencies innocent people used to get targeted in terrorism and added that now our people, businessmen, tourists are feeling safer and secure.
Regarding narco-terrorism, he said that in the last few years around 39 cases have been registered, investigations of which are being conducted in professional manner by NIA, SIU and SIA.
He said that J&K Police recently achieved a significant victory in Ramban by confiscating approximately 30 kilograms of a substance resembling cocaine.
DGP Singh further mentioned that the connections of this discovery extend to regions such as Kupwara, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. All individuals involved in this case have been apprehended, and ongoing investigations are in progress, he said..
“In a stern warning, he made it clear that individuals implicated in the drug trade or any connection to terrorism would face severe consequences,” he said.
The DGP emphasized their unwavering commitment to combating Pakistan-backed narco-terrorism and illicit trade with unwavering determination and authority.
He also appealed for the support and collaboration of the local population in the battle against this threat, emphasizing that it is part of Pakistan’s scheme to endanger the youth and generate finances for terrorist operations.
DGP Singh highlighted the continued existence of certain terrorist camps in Pakistan and the numerous infiltration efforts made throughout the year.
“Approximately 90 per cent of these infiltration attempts were successfully thwarted at the border. The majority of those who managed to breach the border met their end,” he stated.
DGP Singh said that youth in Jammu and Kashmir have grown aware of Pakistan’s sinister agendas and the actions of its agencies, leading them to reject the path of devastation.
“Only 10 misguided youth have joined terror groups this year as compared to 110 last year. We appealed to the misguided youth to shun the violence and contribute for peace and development of the UT,” he added.
DGP Singh highlighted the substantial transformation that J&K has experienced in recent times, with the union territory firmly set on the path of progress and peace.
He stressed that a unified effort is underway to establish enduring peace and serenity in the region.
Furthermore, he paid heartfelt respects to the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and its citizens this year.
During the solemn occasion, he also honoured the courageous police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty in the current year by reading out their names.
“The commemoration day is being observed across the country to remember and pay tributes to the police fallen heroes of the country who made supreme sacrifices of their lives for the Nation and its people. On this day our resolve gets further strengthened to work for the country and its security,” he said.
DGP also appreciated the participation of senior officers of CAPFs, Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, officers from different agencies and different contingents of police and other forces in paying tributes to the police fallen heroes of the country.
“This day has its origin in the valour of CRPF men who while defending our borders in ladakh area while fighting the enemies in 1959 gave supreme sacrifices of their lives and since then the day is being observed every year by all police forces of the country to remember the police martyrs,” he added.
The event was also attended by FC Home (ACS) R. K Goyal, Spl DG CID J&K R.R Swain, Spl DGP Crime J&K A.K Choudhary, GOC 15 Corps Lt General Rajiv Ghai, ADGP CRPF J&K Nalin Prabhat, ADGsP S.J.M Gillani, M.K Sinha, Vijay Kumar, Alok Kumar, Commissioner Secretary Industries & Commerce Vikramjeet Singh.
IGP (Hqrs/CIV) PHQ B.S Tuti, DIsG Shahid Mehraj, Altaf Ahmad Khan, Abdul Qayoom, Javaid Iqbal Matoo, and a host of senior officers from the police, Army, and CAPFs were also present on the occasion.
In the event sacrifices of the martyrs, who laid down their lives in the service of the nation, were remembered and wreaths were laid at the martyr’s memorial.
Families of the martyrs were also present on the occasion. Blood donation camp was held where a 200 police personnel donated the blood in memory of the fallen heroes.
In other parts of Jammu and Kashmir, the commemoration day was also observed, senior police officers led the officers and jawans in paying homage to the fallen heroes of the country.
